The Characters (Who are we?)

I am a adventurer & tour guide. For 23 years, I have wandered the African continent, trying to immerse myself in the clawing obsession of Africa, I now need to go deeper. As a family unit this is one of our most ambitious trips. Danica is 9 & Nicolai 6, what does a child's view hold? 12 months of dust, strangers, love, new animals.
Celeste
To live this dream of African travel culminating in Egypt, has been in the making since childhood. I wanted to be an archaeologist as I was convinced I had been in Egypt in another life.
I need to discover why we are so compelled to do this journey of exploration. To teach, to learn, to grow, to imbibe the very essence of Africa. To make every thought, word & action count. To never look back & say I never followed my dream.
I am a woman of forty, a wife, a mother, a speech therapist & audiologist. But, I'm also a free spirit refusing to be boxed in. A lover of nature & harmony of music & words. A seeker of truth & light, of a higher purpose. Oh the delight of swapping high heeled peep-toes for hiking boots! "Imagine all the people" we'll meet along the way...
Danica
Is our 9 year old daughter. She is an amazing youngster with a passionate affinity for animals. She thinks & feels deeply, responding to the surrounding environment. She needs to be in nature to be happy. That happiness is reflected in her beautiful green eyes as they sparkle. Music & reading enrich her life.
Nicolai
Is our 7 year old son and has a joie-de-vivre second to none. His vibrant personality and enthusiasm is inspirational. He loves being on centre stage. This leadership means that he always has a following. His favorite sports are soccer & cricket, which he plays at every opportunity.
Rhino Conservation
With 670 rhinos being lost in
southern Africa alone during 2012,
there is no doubt a solution
for rhino poaching needs to be found.

Route/About the trip
The adventure begins on January 2012.
Did we mention that we were not going in a straight line.
We will crisscross South Africa & reach Cape Town in
January 2012. South Africa has so much to offer...
From South Africa, we'll travel through Namibia, Botswana,
Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda,
Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan & Egypt.
We are doing the trip in a 2010 Landcruiser, Prado. Her name is Staffie. We have 3 at the moment and they
really are as tough as nails. We expect nothing less from the Cruiser.
We will have a Conqueror in tow.
She is a bit
of an old girl 2005, but she has an important
role to fulfill and I'm sure will cope well.
We've been over her with a fine-toothed comb and she's rearing to go. Although this may detract from the
performance of Staffie, there is really no choice. We need the space.
Goals & Focus
Our aim is to destroy the demand for rhino horn
products world wide. With no demand for horn there
will be no poaching.
We will be raising money for the Rhino Rescue Project,
which will go towards the saving of the rhino. This can be
done with a daily donation of R5. In return there will be a daily
verse of inspiration sent to your mobile.
